Philippians 2:6-8 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (7) But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (8) And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
What would you do to help a stranger? Would you give them a month’s salary? Would you sell your house and give them the proceeds?
Too far?
How about then… just moving out so that they could live there instead of you?
All of these scenarios are ridiculously far fetched… And Yet… It was not too far fetched for Jesus. Jesus looked down from Heaven and saw that we were in desperate need of salvation. He knew that we needed Saving for the problem of sin. A problem far too vast… a problem far too deadly that we could not solve on our own.
So He Acted!
He acted in an outrageous manner. He acted in a manner far beyond what we can comprehend. The apostle Paul says that he…
1. Made Himself of No Reputation
2. He Took the Form of a Servant
3. He was Made in the Likeness of Man
4. He Humbled Himself
5. He was Obedient unto Death.
Jesus was in Heaven with the Father and gave it all up for us. If that is all he did, it would be remarkable and beyond comprehension. But coming to Earth and leaving Heaven was not the all of it. It ended with Him being Obedient to death. Not just any death…But the cruel, Roman torture devise of the cross.
There was Zero benefit to him. He did it all for us!
